S-13 Standpipe Systems Training Course
The S-13 Standpipe Systems Training Course is designed for security professionals, building engineers, and safety personnel who are responsible for monitoring, understanding, and supporting standpipe systems within commercial and residential buildings. This course focuses specifically on standpipe system knowledge, operation, and compliance — not Fire Guard duties.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of how standpipe systems function, including risers, hose valves, pressure-regulating devices, fire department connections (FDC), control valves, and water supply components. The course explains the differences between Class I, Class II, and Class III standpipe systems and how each is used during fire department operations. Students will learn how these systems support firefighting efforts in high-rise and large structures.
Instruction also covers inspection awareness, identifying visible deficiencies, recognizing impairment conditions, and understanding reporting procedures. Security personnel often serve as the first line of observation when issues arise, and this training helps them recognize potential hazards before they escalate. Emphasis is placed on coordination with building management, engineering teams, and emergency responders.
By the end of the course, students will have a strong working knowledge of standpipe system components, terminology, and operational expectations. This training is ideal for security supervisors, fire safety directors, building staff, and anyone responsible for maintaining a safe and compliant environment in properties equipped with standpipe systems.
