F-01 Fire Guard for Impairment Training Course
The F-01 Fire Guard for Impairment Training Course prepares security professionals to serve as a certified Fire Guard when a building’s fire protection systems are temporarily out of service. This certification is required by the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) whenever fire alarm, sprinkler, or standpipe systems are impaired, and a qualified Fire Guard must be assigned to maintain safety and compliance.
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of fire watch responsibilities, emergency procedures, and documentation requirements. Students learn how to conduct continuous patrols, identify fire hazards, monitor affected areas, and maintain detailed fire watch logs. Instruction covers communication protocols with building management, occupants, and emergency responders, as well as proper response actions in the event of smoke, fire, or other hazardous conditions.
Participants will also gain knowledge of fire protection systems, impairment coordination procedures, and the legal responsibilities associated with holding an F-01 Certificate of Fitness. Emphasis is placed on professionalism, vigilance, situational awareness, and accurate reporting during impairment periods. Real-world scenarios are used to reinforce decision-making skills and ensure readiness for on-site responsibilities.
Upon successful completion of the course, students are prepared to sit for the FDNY Certificate of Fitness examination and perform Fire Guard duties confidently and compliantly. This training is ideal for security guards, building staff, and fire safety personnel who need to meet FDNY requirements and maintain safe operations during system outages.
