16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards
The 16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course is a mandatory requirement for New York State security guards and must be completed within 90 days of employment.
This advanced training builds upon the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Course and focuses on practical, real-world responsibilities that security professionals face daily, including emergency response procedures, access control operations, incident reporting, public interaction, conflict management, workplace safety, and understanding legal limitations.
Students gain a deeper understanding of professional conduct, effective communication, and situational awareness to perform confidently and competently in various security environments such as residential buildings, commercial properties, retail locations, and corporate facilities. Upon successful completion, participants receive the certificate required to remain compliant with New York State regulations while strengthening the knowledge and skills needed to succeed and grow in the security industry.
